In the first decade, ICIMOD convened various studies on hydrological processes in the region. As a result, the first two occasional papers published in the 1980s focused on erosion and sedimentation processes and glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF). ICIMOD has developed forest fire monitoring systems in Nepal and Bhutan, piloted community based early warning in India, Nepal and Afghanistan and developed tools and methods for multi-hazard risk assessment and mapping.
