The CSDRR is a three-year project which started in 2017. It aims to improve disaster preparedness and resilience in communities and schools in Doti District.
During the first year of the project, seismic vulnerability and multi-hazard assessment for existing school blocks were thoroughly conducted with participation of members from schools and communities and in the second year, the project will start retrofitting and reconstruction works for ten schools to be earthquake-resistant. Studying environment, including water and sanitation facilities are also being improved in each school to create a safe learning environment.
Along with the assessment, the project focuses on development of level of knowledge and understanding of students in potential hazards and disasters. Also, the project has started improving disaster risk management systems in schools and communities by orienting on planning and carrying out of Disaster Management Plans. Additionally, in the second year, the project focuses on strengthening school and community disaster resilience, building a platform for community and local authorities to work together to promote disaster management activities for ownership and sustainability.
