Nepal Urban Resilience Programme (2019-2024)

The Nepal Urban Resilience Programme (NURP) is a 5-year programme funded by DFID (2019-2024) to support national and local government in strengthening the resilience of growing urban areas to natural disasters through improved building, planning and services. VSO is a member of the consortium led by ICF, and focuses on gender and social inclusion, DRM and local governance capacity support. As part of the NURP team, VSO will apply its Relational Volunteering model, embedding volunteers into communities, institutions, partner organizations, local authorities, and other actors to lead processes to strengthen systems to help marginalised groups sustainably reduce their vulnerability through gender and social inclusion, social accountability and community-led resilience.

Project Objectives:

1. Strengthen the disaster resilience of up to 7 rapidly urbanising areas (sub-metropolitan city/municipality) and to facilitate learning from these urban areas to enable replication in other locations.

2. Strengthen national policy development, implementation and monitoring in relation to disaster resilience, as well as stronger coordination and collaboration between the Government and development partners nationally.
