Flood Recovery Operation-FRO

The Flood Recovery Operation was undertaken after the 2017 floods to meet immediate needs of the affected people and build a resilient community. The operation is focused in the area of Shelter, Health, Wash Livelihood, Disaster Risk Reduction in 9 of its implementation districts and include crosscutting areas of Community Engagement and Accountability CEA, Protection Gender and Inclusion PGI. The operation also gave emphasis to building capacity of National Society in its activities.

Disaster Preparedness and Disaster Risk Reduction (DPDRR)

All wards of Dang, Bardiya, Banke, Darchula and Kailali districts Enhancement of response capacity of national and local authorities and key stakeholders upgrading DEOC mechanism

  • DEOC capacity enhancement (IM platform)
  • Assessment and coordination (ACT mechanism and IRA mobile application)
  • SOP development for shelter public and private sector involvement.

Supporting Earthquake Recovery of Vulnerable Households (SERVE)

The Supporting Earthquake Recovery of Vulnerable Households (SERVE) is a disaster recovery initiative funded by Mercy Corps Private Fund, Western Union, ING Foundation and Google.org, which works to facilitate reconstruction of houses, protect and improve income and assets, increase social inclusion and equity through an integrated approach between disaster risk reduction (DRR), financial inclusion and market systems development components. This project is implemented in Makawanpur, Dolakha and Sindhuli.

Earthquake Response Project 2015

Supported communities to build earthquake resistant buildings. Supported to construct 300 houses. Before providing support for the construction each household was trained on features of earthquake resistant building and adherence to building code as directed by National Reconstruction Authority (NRA). Trained local masons (464 masons) for construction of earthquake resistant permanent shelter.

IOM’s work on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and environmental degradation contributes to the efforts of member states to implement the Sendai Framework for DRR 2015 – 2030 by advancing mobility-based strategies in disaster risk reduction and resilience.
