Constructive and critical engagement with local government

AA Nepal has been taking the leadership of District Support led Agency-DLSA since 2015. Nepal Government Ministry of Home Affairs has identified 16 most frequent flood hit districts in Nepal and welcomed to international communities to support respective districts for preparedness especially for floods. ActionAid Nepal has nominated as a District Lead Support Agency (DLSA) for Bardiya district. With the technical and financial support of ActionAid Nepal, DDRC Bardiya has developed a Disaster Preparedness and Response Plan (DPRP) over the period.

Budget tracking at local level

Number of DM plans have been developed and functionalized at LRP working areas over the period. Very successful community-based disaster management plan that linked to local disaster risk management plan at VDCs as well as other sectoral areas of district line agencies. So far, a total of 39 proposals have been submitted from the DMCs to the VDC and municipality based on the DM plans. Agreements have been signed between RFA partners and government regarding how best to take the LDRMP process forward particularly in Chainpur municipality and Rajapur Municipality.

Ready for Anything-Aid Match Project (2013-2016

Project has been supported by AAUK/DFID Aid Match funds. The duration of project is August 2013 to July 2016 (36 months). The project is being implemented in three Local Rights Program districts in Nepal namely Nawalparasi Bardia and Sankhuwasabha, representing major ecological zones – Terai (the plains in the South), and high mountains. Through project 198,230 beneficiaries in 50 communities across 3 districts have been building their capacity to reduce risks and recover from the impacts of disasters and climate change.

'Surakshit Samudaya: Building safer community through disaster management initiatives DIPECHO IV (2007-08)

The learning from the DIPECHO III was instrumental in designing DIPECHO V project giving empathized community empowerment as well as advocacy for enabling policy environment. The project 'Building safer community through disaster management initiatives’ was implemented in five districts for 16 months from November 2007 under a funding support of the European Commission through its Humanitarian Aid department.

Building Community Resilience to Disaster (BCRD)-DIPECHO III (2006-07)

ActionAid Nepal had launched Building Community Resilience to Disaster (BCRD) under the DIPECHO III project in Sarlahi, Makwanpur and Rupandehi districts, Primary focus of project was raising awareness, advocacy, capacity building and small-scale mitigation programmes. Similarly, other project activities had also included carrying out rescue and relief operations and natural calamity impact mitigation measures. These project districts represent two physiographic regions; middle mountains and eastern and western Terai.
