Building Capacity at Local Level

Working with the local government, communities and local stakeholders of DRR/DRM is one of the key strengths of CARE. Following projects have worked closely with local government units, communities, civil society organizations and the community together for strengthening DRR at the local level. Similarly, CARE through these projects has strengthened the responsive capacity of the local authorities as well as of communities to demand for the services.

Disaster Risk Reduction at the National Level in Nepal (DRRNLN)

UNDP had implemented a project entitled Disaster Risk Reduction at the National Level in Nepal (DRRNLN) till 2010 as an umbrella project of disaster risk management integrating number of small projects such as on community-based disaster management, establishment of emergency operation centres, emergency grant for flood and landslide response (EGFLR) and preparatory assistance for the Implementation of Hyogo Framework for Action. The main goal of the project was to promote disaster risk reduction in Nepal through a multi-sectoral and multi-stakeholder focused approach.

Regional Climate Risk Reduction Project in the Himalayas (RCRRP)

Nepal component, was a project implemented by UNDP during 2009-2011. The RCRRP was supported by the European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid Office (ECHO) and was implemented through UNDP’s Bureau for Crisis Prevention and Recovery (BCPR). The aim of the project was to develop and implement comprehensive risk management strategies to address climate-induced hydro-meteorological hazards in the Himalayan region.
